Preparing Your Boat for Export Shipping

When anyone looks forward to buying their dream boat, they expect it to be ready and available from the moment they pay for it. However, the boat of your dreams might sometimes be on the other side of the world, like in the USA for example. And in order to bring it over to Australia there are a series of aspects that you should consider in order to prepare it for exporting.

Also, in case the boat you chose is used, before you even consider shipping your boat out of the USA you should have it checked by both an independent surveyor and by an engineer, which will provide you with accurate reports on the state of the boat and its engine. These can cost anything between $300 to $500, but are definitely worth it. Once this check is performed and you buy the boat, then it is time to start preparing it for export shipping.

First of all, if the boat was made in the USA, then it will be exempt from any import taxes so that is definitely a plus. Then, you should consider an ocean freight service (we’ll talk about that in a minute) and other additional fees that you will have to pay, like the Marina fees, the Road Transportation fees in the USA, the Australian Port fees and the GST, which are usually around 10% of the total costs, including the freight expenses.

What comes next is to actually physically prepare the boat for the shipping process and to take care of all the paperwork involved in shipping it, making sure to comply with all import regulations. And here is precisely where our services can take the reigns and make all this process completely smooth for you.

Part of these preparations include the cleaning of the boat, its fumigation, wrapping and others, and (depending on the size of the vessel), the removal and repositioning of some parts of the boat (like the hard top for example) in order to minimize the shipping volume. And of course, do make sure to include an insurance that covers the whole process.

And all along the export shipping process of your boat, we will keep in close contact with you, keeping you informed of the status of the boat and its location, everything handled with great care by a local team of professionals that will make sure your boat reaches home in the best condition.
